St Patty's Day in Ireland

March 17-19, 2007

I was sitting at my computer one day last month and I realised that St Pat's day fell on a Saturday and that I would have a 3 day weekend. I sent a few emails looking for some companions to have a random weekend of celebrations in Dublin, since my usual companion sadly had to work Sat, Sun and Mon :(

So it was that I flew to Dublin and met my generous friend Greville, an Irishman who I met in Panama, who provided me a bed for the weekend (although I only made it as far as the couch on the first night!); Benny G the beer disposal unit with a vet degree from Australia; and Manuel the dutchman who I met while in Barcelona who happens to like Guinness ... maybe a bit too much!

The green shirt came out, the shamrock was painted on the cheek for charity, the drinking hat was bought, the annual parade was watched with 600,000 others and then it was straight to the nearest waterhole for a bit of the black stuff.

It was a weekend for meeting crazy new people from all walks of life and from all around the world and for sharing a guinness and a laugh and some quotes from the movie Snatch, while at the same time watching the Irish destroy Italy in the rugby, Pakistan in the cricket and themselves in the pub! Fair play to ya, it was a great craic.
